ELIM - A BRIEF HISTORY

Elim had its beginnings much nearer home, in the town of Monaghan, now in the Republic of Ireland, and grew indirectly out of the Welsh Revival at the start of the twentieth century.

Some have wondered why the name 'ELIM' was adopted. Probably two things influenced George Jeffreys' choice. Many churches in his native Wales had biblical names - Bethel, Bethesda, Carmel, Shiloh and so on.

George Jeffreys (1889 - 1962), the founder of the Elim Pentecostal Churches, was undoubtedly one of the greatest evangelists of the twentieth century.
